Anna Aven, fellow Californian (oh how I miss the sand in my toes), has an interesting perspective on Community inspired by a Nissan ad.
Here's something we have been toying with. I like the idea that we are supposed to create community. But what happens in such a quick communication society is that the next latest and greatest idea soon becomes the next commodity with which we sell our views. Starbucks has the slogan "Create... community." When I read that, I wonder if we've fallen into the same mentality: Community is something like a commodity.
Are we communing or are we making a commodity?
